exploring and forecasting KENZO 09 fall/winter collection (part1)

My findings and study:

1.theme
Since Antonio Marras to be the designer of KENZO, he still retains the concept of flowers and flourishing color in KENZO collections. In 04~09 collection, I find that the inspiration mainly comes from natural world, exoticism and national culture.

2.color

After the group research, I find that some colors are always used in KENZO collections. They are red, black, white, blue and green colors.

Why is red?
Red is the cooperate color of KENZO. When we see the red color, it is linked to the brand of KENZO immediately. In KENZO collection, it is not only the same "red" in all collections. Different value and chroma arranged in each collection. Most of the red is used in a small proportion in a garment (>30%) . Red gives an" expansive" effect on the senses and being capable of including a state of excitation in both emotion and motor behavior(from Kust Goldstein research).

Why are black and white?
Black and white are always used in KENZO collection even in spring/summer or fall/winter.
According to Wikipedia, Black-and-white is a number of monochrome forms in visual arts. Most forms of visual technology start out in black and white, and then slowly evolve into color as technology progresses. So it is hardly avoid using Black and white in our life, especially in fashion. In fashion industry, Black and white colors are never to be past tense. They are always the present continuous tense. They give simple, neat and cool feelings. I think Black and white colors are very amazing; it suits every time and situation even in simple or grand occasions. It may be the reasons the designer always apply Black and white in their collections.

Why are blue and green?

Blue and green are always used in KENZO collections especially in fall/winter. As I know, Kenzo Takada (高田賢三 Takada Kenzō)is a Japanese fashion designer. He is also the founder of a world-wide brand KENZO. He loves nature. His inspiration always comes from natural world. Blue and green are the natural colors and it represents sky, sea and plants.
